What is a guardian home?
A guardian home program is where we place one of our carefully selected breeding dogs into the home of a local family (with-in 2 hours of O'Connell NSW 2795) at no cost to them. The breeder retain ownership and breeding rights of the dog until they are retired from our breeding program. At which point the family has full ownership of the dog.
A guardian home provides the opportunity to have the highest quality dog bred by Seileach or other breeders for no cost to the new family. In return, the dog will return to us for breeding as stipulated in their contract.
By offering the guardian program, we are able to ensure that our dogs get to live the best possible lives in a loving, caring home where they receive as much one on one attention as possible.

Why is Seileach Looking For Guardian Homes
Due to the primary breeder's temporary move overseas until next year, Seileach Border Collies is undergoing a restructuring of its breeding program. This adjustment is necessary to accommodate the breeder's absence and ensure that all dogs receive the care and attention they deserve. As part of this restructuring, Seileach Border Collies is seeking guardian homes for some of its beloved dogs. While the breeding program will continue during this period, there will be fewer litters to allow for the necessary adjustments. Rest assured, Seileach Border Collies remains committed to maintaining its high standards of breeding excellence and ensuring the well-being of all its dogs.

What are the responsibilities of a guardian home?
Guardian homes are very similar to that of a regular pet owners home.
As a guardian home you will need to provide and pay for the general care of your dog as you would any other. This will include food, water, vaccinations, worming, flea treatment, heartworming treatment, training, toys, bedding, socialisation, grooming, etc.
All breeding related expenses are taken care of by the breeder. This include progesterone testing, stud fees, ultrasounds, x-rays, genetic testing, hip/elbow testing, whelping expenses and costs associated with raising the litter once they have arrived until they go to their new homes at 8 weeks old.
How long will you be away from your dog?
This question will vary largely between individual dogs.
For breeding bitch's, once they have come to breeding age. They will come to us for 1-2 weeks during their heat cycle (when they ovulate and can be bred), they will then return to you for their pregnancy and return to us 1-2 weeks before their due date. We will then care for her and the puppies for another 8 weeks at which time she will return to the guardian home. Depending on the success of the breeding, her health and age we will then decide if she will be bred again. Which will be decided after 1-2 cycles rest.
For breeding stud's, once they have come to breeding age. They will come to use for approximately 1 week when we have a bitch that we want to breed. Depending on the genetics, age and importance of the stud in our breeding program this could be up to a few times a year.
